The Defender - my daily driver

In 1993 I saw what looked like a shoebox on knobby tires parked outside Prestige Mercedes - Range Rover in Paramus New Jersey. A friend of mine who was in the know told me it was the UK's very cool equivalent of America's Jeep. They come in various configurations from 2 door soft tops to 4 door station wagons. In the rest of the world, these Land Rovers are as common as Ford Pick Up trucks in the mid west. Land Rover decided to import a few thousand to America in the '90s to help build brand recognition. Basically show the US where the Range Rover and Discoveries came from. It was a brilliant plan that made every off road enthusiast envy the investment bankers who could actually buy them as toys for their summer homes on Nantucket.

Since they were only imported for three years, finding one wasn't easy and of course to me more annoying I wanted a Arles Blue one that was only made as a soft top in 1994. It took me 15 years to actually afford one. Ironically even used I paid the sticker price from 1994. The rarity has caused them to have a cult following. Douches from John Mayer to Ashton Kutcher to me are owners. After a few years of ownership I recently purchased a second rarer model. That one is a 1993 110. There were only 500 imported and I am lucky enough to have number 250. Right in the middle. If it was art the number would make it the perfect print.

Such a douche for not having a normal car like everyone else. Stay tuned for posts related to work I do on these trucks myself. I know you can't wait to hear about galvanic corrosion.
